Cancun wasn’t very high on my list of places to visit, and a large part of that was because every time I pictured it, I saw the same image of oversized resorts wedged between other oversized resorts, which just isn’t my really my jam. And, while you can definitely find that here if it’s what you’re looking for, it’s not your only option!
El Rey Del Caribe was my own personal haven in the midst of the non-stop frat party that iscan be Cancun. Tucked away in the downtown area, one could easily walk right by without even knowing it existed. But behind the few red steps that lead up to this property, is a lush jungle with inviting hammocks strewn across each level. Escape the Yucatan heat by taking an afternoon dip- you’ve got a pool or jacuzzi to choose from. Or take a nap while swinging under the trees before getting a deep tissue massage in their spa room.
In the morning, breakfast (which is included with the room) is served on a secluded patio, with an array of options to choose from.
The staff are also incredibly friendly and accomodating. When our pre-booked car rental never showed up (American, you kind of suck) the woman at the front desk was incredibly helpful and arranged another car from a different company for half the price.
If all this plus spacious rooms aren’t already enough, the fact that the whole property is eco friendly gives it a whole lot of extra stars in my book.
I realize that many people come to Cancun for the very desire of loud parties and all inclusive deals. If, however, you’re craving something a bit more low key, then this tranquil little paradise is unbeatable.
